inprogress.type
Zábojník, Ondřej ; Hojgr, Jakub (referee) ; Kubíková, Zuzana (advisor)
Typography as a discipline is nowadays mostly considered as authorial, and in common practice we usually encounter an approach where the authors of fonts carefully guard and hide their know-how and do not share workflows/"unfinished" files. This creates a kind of mysterious and impenetrable membrane around the whole field, in which there is distrust of others and a pervasive fear of loosing one's own "originality". All of this is done to favour their position on the market and to accumulate financial and social capital. The bachelor's thesis presents various problems pervading typographic practice, draws conclusions on how these problems can be combated, and "humbly" invites typographers to collaborate, be community-minded, share knowledge and ideas, and presents the limits/negatives of existing alternatives. This brings to light the author's motivations for creating the inprogress.type platform and how this tool can help to re-set existing paradigms. Inprogress.type is a platform/online tool for sharing, collectively designing and/or incrementally re-designing open-source fonts, visualizing and archiving the whole process, breaking the boundaries between author, designer and end-user, and creating a digital environment helpful for self-education of students and laics. This tool is based on the lack of alternatives in the online space.
Platform Urbanism – Digital platforms and their role in the city
Indruch, Ondřej ; Bílý, Radoslav (referee) ; Palacký, Jiří (advisor)
The theoretical diploma thesis follows up on the undergraduate work examining the issue of „Platform urbanism“ using the method of studying literature. Starting with physical platforms, their interconnection with digital platforms and the concept of a smart city, to a possible overlap into virtual reality. The theoretical diploma thesis examines the transformation of urban space through digital platforms from the perspective of experience and knowledge from advanced development abroad to early development in the city of Brno in order to answer the established research question: „What is the role of platforms within the city and how do they influence its development?“ Through knowledge from undergraduate work and the connection to the concept of a smart city, three main sectors - transport, real estate, shopping, and three additional sectors - health, identification, communication - are selected with regard to city life, basic human needs and representation on digital platforms. According to ownership, individual sectors are divided into those managed by the city, region and state and otherwise by private companies. Specific representatives of digital platforms are divided according to the scale of the platform or operating company into three fields - local, regional, global. This creates an up-to-date overview of relevant digital platforms operating in the city of Brno in order to answer the second research question set by the author during the work: „Is it possible to compile an overview of urban platforms that affect city life and development?“ To gain experience and knowledge in the city of Brno, a questionnaire survey was conducted focused on individual sectors of digital platforms operating in the city. Based on local and foreign knowledge and experience, a SWOT analysis is compiled for individual sectors of digital platforms. The examination of individual sectors is concluded by a critical evaluation and subsequent recommendations or solutions. The research on the issue of platform urbanism, specifically digital platforms, is finally evaluated from the author‘s point of view. Based on research findings, the author theoretically proposes a digital solution with possible global application and a physical solution for a specific sector of actors operating in Brno.
Design of a solution for detecting fraud behavior in a digital platform
Písečný, Patrik ; Jaššo, Radoslav (referee) ; Novák, Lukáš (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze and design solutions in a digital platform. Part of the work will be the design of algorithms to detect fraudulent user behavior in the mobile application environment and the design of new views in the form of data outputs on stored data about platform users, which will bring a new perspective on data segmentation.

The Impact of the Sharing Economy on Residential Prices in Prague
Schwarzová, Lucie ; Hlaváček, Michal (advisor) ; Hanzlík, Petr (referee)
This thesis employs a hedonic regression to measure the impact of Airbnb, the digital platform for short term rentals, on residential prices in Prague. The model is based on the unique transaction dataset of all apartment sales from the first quarter of 2014 to the third quarter of 2018 in Prague. Also, Airbnb listings dataset is used and other datasets containing Prague city data enabling involvement of the property specifications and several neighborhood characteristics influencing the sale price in the model. The main variable of interest included in the regression is Airbnb activity, proxied by the number of Airbnb listings within 300 m of the property at the time of the sale. The results show that a 1% increase in Airbnb activity leads to a 0.0423% increase in sale prices. Moreover, in the city center, the estimated impact is almost twice as high, a 1% increase in Airbnb activity leads to a 0.0816% increase in sale prices. The third hypothesis tested in this thesis shows that the impact of Airbnb has increased in 2017 and 2018. All the estimated results slightly vary, depending on the proxy for Airbnb activity. Nevertheless, estimates in all regressions are statistically significant.
